Except that it doesn't really need a computer.
The Focal XS 2.1 sat-sub system takes audio through the USB interface, so it does full digital to audio conversion from the music files on the Mac or PC. It has an iPod dock (with inserts to suit the full range of 'pods) and can play iPod sound directly from the dock with no computer involved. The styling might be Mac-centric, but I repeat that it is compatible with normal windows machines too.
The sub-woofer is moderately compact and VERY heavy. In fact the build quality is extremely impressive on all fronts. There is a remote control that can take charge of the iPod and adjust the volume. It attaches magnetically to one of the metal uprights on the speakers when not in use.
Sound quality from the iPod is impressive, from the USB feed on the computer it is magnificent. Sitting fairly close to the computer screen, the imaging and clarity (not to mention bass weight) is downright spell-binding.
The cost, at £389, seems very reasonable indeed (we are selling, after all). I have one in the office and you can blooming well buy your own! More.
