. . . and it’s not all good!

With the US – Iran conflict in an ongoing state of . . . . confusion, it’s not hard to see that the resultant price increases in petro-chemical related products is having some impact on raw material prices. More surprising is that the AI revolution has apparently caused a spike in memory storage prices.

Either way, we are entering a period of price volatility and we all know how this tends to work. Sugden raised their prices fairly modestly back in April and I cannot recall if we ever gave you the heads-up for that. Dela prices go up on 1st May and Innuos on the 25th May.

We still await Nottingham Analogue’s update (from 2016), by the way. It’s got to happen!! The message is clear: buy now if you can 🙂

Dynaudio deliver a Legend

The new Legend loudspeakers launched by Dynaudio as part of their Heritage series are a very highly specified ultra compact Confidence grade design housed in decidedly retro wooden faced enclosures. The wood in question is natural rosewood and the grain patterns are mirrored in the best traditions of cabinet making. Grilles are not an option.

Our own demonstration examples are due to arrive imminently and we had an extended listening session with a pair of them a few weeks ago.

They are very close in size to the Evoke 10 and, unsurprisingly, given their £5500 cost, they are considerably more accomplished than them. The interesting back to back comparison will be with the similarly priced Contour Black Edition. For sure the Black Editions will beat them in terms of dynamics, absolute scale and bass extension but there is something deeply appealing about how these tiddlers manage to project a huge, spacious and convincing image.

Whist these are being presented as part of the Heritage series, the Legends are not limited edition products as the others have been. As with the original Heritage Special and Contour Legacy, these are hand made by Dynaudio in Denmark.

Invitation to an Accuphase summer ‘do’

In celebration of the arrival of the seriously wonderful, far from cheap but less expensive than expected C-3900s preamplifier, and the new revised and upgraded DP-570s CD / SACD player. We are holding ‘une grande fête d’êté’ and, with our newfound poshness, will offer wine, Pimms and canapés along with our usual fare.

In a world this bleak we need all the cheering up we can get.

Against the background of price rises outlined at the start of this doom laden missive, the weirdness that a very weak Japanese Yen has been bringing lower prices is hard to fathom. Go on, come for a listen and allow for temptation!

We are holding our event on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th May.

Given the undoubted synergy between Dynaudio and Accuphase, we will have our Legends to hand for system demonstrations.

and finally . . .

Meze 105 AER

Meze are offering £100 off the £369 retail price of the new 105 AER open back ‘phones from 1st May until 1st July.

They come with a USB C DAC module so can be used with current iPhones and iPads as well as via conventional 3.5 and 6.35 mm analogue means.

I tried a set at home with an iPad last weekend. They are light, very comfortable and sound very good indeed, even in this context.

Rega Planar 6 RS edition

Rega’s new £2000 Planar 6 RS edition is now here. We have it on demonstration and, currently, even have stock.

It does to the Planar 6 what the best selling Planar 3 RS does to the standard Planar 3 and strikes us as a rather compelling proposition.
