Description
New Dynaudio Contour Legacy edition.
Dynaudio have a tradition of making special limited edition products and, following on from the Heritage special of a couple of years ago, Dynaudio have released something akin to a ‘restomod’ version of the old and highly revered Contour 1.8 MkII floor-standing loudspeaker.
For Heritage there were 2500 pairs made and all sold through reasonably swiftly. For Contour Legacy, it’s just 1000 sets worldwide with only 50 destined for the UK. The price is £10200 and the performance is off the scale.
The tweeter is from the Confidence series but dressed to look like the original Contour version. The American Walnut veneer is exquisite but you had better like it, because it’s the only option.
The bass drivers are based on those used in the ultra high end Evidence series (technically above Confidence) but redesigned for this particular model. The crossovers are exceedingly highly specified, using high end Mundorf and Duelund parts.
The upshot is a compact loudspeaker with logic defying bass extension, dynamics, scale and tonal colour. Straight out of the box, you simply want to play them. They have high resolution but are extraordinarily benign. I’ll try to avoid calling them ‘musical’ but they certainly connect you to the music.
Yes, we’ve rather taken to them!!
Unsurprisingly, with this lack of supply, quotas are seriously restricted. Beyond our initial demonstration set, the ongoing arrivals will be mainly over the end of 2024 and the early part of 2025.
We are serious fans of the Dynaudio Confidence series but these deliberately old fashioned looking rectangular boxes probably offer the most fun we’ve had from any of the Dynaudio range. They work best in a sizeable room and with some space to breath, so the publicity shots of them tucked in close to walls beside a mid century sideboard are a little misleading. They do convey the retro appeal, though, so they’re shared here.
Why not grab a hankie and watch the video here.
We have our allocation booked to arrive over the next few months. Our demo set is here and should be fully run-in in good time for the official launch on 29th October 2024, so please give us a call on 01394 672464 to arrange a demonstration.
