Planar Magnetic Technology
Whilst standard headphones use mass-produced dynamic cone drivers, often causing uneven frequency response, the Quad ERA-1s contain newly developed planar magnetic technology, to deliver an accurate and natural performance, with every nuance of the original recording. An ultra-thin, electrically active diaphragm, which is even thinner than a human hair, but is extremely strong and elastic, is fused with a precisely arranged magnet system inside the ERA-1s. This is designed to maximise both the sensitivity and the consistency of the force of the driver.
Quad’s patented nonlinear vibration suppression technology lets the bass extension of the headphone driver be heard cleanly and with great clarity. For optimum acoustic performance, a specially designed metal cavity is placed behind the driver, and the drivers have been closely matched for spacious and three dimensional stereo sound.
The ERA-1 headphones give much better coherency than ordinary dynamic headphone drivers, thanks to the planar magnetic driver. All parts of the diaphragm are able to vibrate simultaneously, without break up or delayed resonance, giving much more regular coherence and signal peak reconstruction.
With high sensitivity and low impedance, the Quad ERA-1 headphones perform excellently at any level, without requiring high power amplifiers driving them. The headphones are able to work well with a wide variety of devices, including portable audio players through to high-end headphone amplifiers. The Quad PA-One headphone amp/DAC partners well with the headphones, for a superb combination of fluidity and sonic clarity.

Quad provide two different types of ear cushions, one made from soft leather, and the other made of latex topped with a fleecy fabric, allowing you to choose depending on your personal preference, of comfort and acoustic properties of the materials.
